Obituary for Rachel DeVarah Hill Boatwright

Boatwright, Rachel DeVarah (Hill) – age 86 currently of Loudon, previously of Sterling, Virginia, passed peacefully at 5:45 PM, Wednesday, December 20th with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. DeVarah attend Lee College, where she enjoyed singing with the Acapella Choir and working in the bookstore. While at Lee, she met her future husband, Calvin Boatwright. Together they ministered within the Church of God faith. DeVarah was active with the music ministry of the church, playing the piano and singing. “How Great Thou Art” was her favorite song to sing. She enjoyed caring for her three children, Pamela, Daniel and Richard. Later in her life she became a Real Estate Agent and also worked for the US Navy.
DeVarah is preceded in death by her parents, Oda John and Jewell (Ayers) Hill; son, Daniel Brian Boatwright; sister, Willie Ruth Ray; brother, Jarvis Hill; and father of her children, Calvin Boatwright.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Michael Valatka, Loudon; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Barbara Boatwright, Huddleston, Virginia; uncle and aunts, John C. and Eddie Lou Boatwright, Annandale, Virginia and Elma Hill of the Atlanta area; several nieces and nephews; and college friend, Helen Owens. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Jennifer Babbin for her constant friendship and companionship to DeVarah.
A graveside service to honor and remember DeVarah will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27th in the Lakewood Memorial Gardens, South in Rossville, Georgia with Rev. Brian Courtney officiating. The family will gather for viewing, 4:30 PM Tuesday, December 26th at McGill Click Funerals & Cremations, 1366 Highway 72 North, Loudon.
