Obituary for Theodore Franklin Lynn

Theodore F. Lynn, age 78, of Loudon, passed on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. Ted was a proud Vietnam veteran who served his country for 23 years in the United States Air Force and Tennessee National Guard. He flew on more than 100 combat rescue missions while in Vietnam and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, seven Air Medals, three Air Force Commendation Medals, as well as 29 service ribbons and devices for multiple other awards. After being honorably discharged from military service, Ted briefly worked as a law enforcement officer for the Loudon City Police Department and Loudon County Sheriff’s Office. He was employed by A.E. Staley in Loudon for more than 10 years. After early retirement from Staley, Ted obtained his real estate license and opened Ted Lynn Realty. He was voted president of the Loudon and Monroe Association of Realtors in 1999. Ted also did consulting work as a project manager for E.C. Corporation and worked on such projects at the Loudon County Justice Center, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Knoxville, and Berry Field Air National Guard Base in Nashville. Ted grew up in the Prospect Baptist Church community, and at the time of his death, he was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Lenoir City, the Disabled Veterans Association, the Philippine-American Association of East Tennessee, and the Freedom through Vigilance Association. Ted was a man of strong conviction. He had a loving and caring soul. He was our leader and role model. We are proud to call him husband, father, and friend. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Balser and Nettie (Eblen) Tutterrow and William S. and Emma (Humphries) Lynn; and parents, Bill and Margaret (Tutterrow) Lynn of Loudon. He is survived by his loving wife, Mercy Lynn, of 49 years. The couple was just days shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Ted is also survived by children and spouses, Terrie Horvatic (Jamie), Tim Condry, Maria Ashburn (Lee), and Trisha Kopinski (Scott); grandchildren, Zack Ashburn, Ryan Kopinski, Erin Kopinski, and Katie McCauley. A wake will be held 10 AM Monday, June 25th at St. Thomas Church, 1580 Saint Thomas Way in Lenoir City, to be followed by a mass at 11:00 AM. Contributions in memory of Ted may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Church. An interment will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, in the Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga. The family will receive friends 5 – 7 PM Monday, June 25th at McGill Click Funerals and Cremations, 1366 Highway 72 N., Loudon.
