Obituary for Nancy Roberson Booth

Nancy Roberson Booth of Knoxville passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019. Nancy was born in Loudon to loving parents John Henry and Margaret (Jones) Roberson in April 1930. She grew up on the family dairy farm and graduated from Loudon High School in 1947. She attended Shorter College in Rome, Georgia and finished her formal education graduating from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a minor in English.
Nancy met her husband Eugene Franklin Booth from Jonesboro while attending UT. The couple married at Loudon United Methodist Church. Nancy’s family expanded over the years to included children Laura, Frank, Jenny and Anne. The family resided in Denver, Colorado, Loudon, Tennessee, Chicago, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Kentland, Indiana.
Nancy returned to East Tennessee following the unexpected passing of her husband in 1986. She worked at Shannondale Retirement Center until the year 2000. A long time member of Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church, Nancy was active with the United Methodist Women, Keenagers, Chancel Choir and many Bible study groups over the years.
In Nancy’s earlier years, she was a Language Arts teacher at the middle school level where she shared her passion for English literature and the importance of writing to impressionable young minds. Nancy was an avid reader of many genres and enjoyed sharing her gift of storytelling. She later presented book lectures and reviews to local churches, senior and civic groups. In Nancy’s latter years she enjoyed the company of many dear friends.
Nancy is preceded in death by parents, brother, William H. Roberson; husband, Eugene F. Booth; brother-in-law, Jerry Booth and sister-in-law, Betty Richardson, several aunts and cousins. She is survived by daughter, Laura B. (David) Collins, son, Eugene Franklin Booth, daughter, Jenny (Doug) Miedaner, and daughter Anne (John) McCarver; grandsons, Josh (April) Collins, Zach (Rachel) Collins, Garrett (Ashley) Arms, Cody Blaine Booth, Jesse Colton Booth and Chandler Venable; great-grandchildren, Adalyn Nanni, Addison, Easton and Kynleigh Collins; Decklan and Rylan Arms; brother-in-law, Bernell Richardson; nephews, John and Jeff Roberson, niece Susan Hodd Roberson, and many cousins; William B. Hope and family, Henry Hope and family, Kathy Coggins and family, and Susan Booth. Thank you to her beloved and devoted caregivers, Darcie Wolfe, Dinah Quillan and Kelly Mays who Nancy loved like a daughter and friend.
Services to honor and remember Nancy will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 18th at the Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Galyon officiating. Contributions in memory of Nancy Booth may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church, 7234 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville, TN 37909.
